Accommodations
In 2000, we purchased two cottages that are adjacent
to our property. We have decided to offer them for vacation rentals because
we love where we live and want to share it with others. We have 80 acres
of unspoiled natural forest, surrounded on the east and west by the George
Washington National Forest. Abundant wildlife, wildflowers and birds abound.
There are nature trails and a private pond for guests to enjoy. Our two
homes are for weekly or weekend rentals. They are:

Cottage

This home was built in l987. The wood for this house, inside and out,
was timbered from the mountain property surrounding our home and milled
at our custom sawmill, from the frame to the finely finished wood paneling.
It sits on the side of a mountain and is secluded from others' sight.
Surrounded by forest, you can relax on the wrap around porch and enjoy
mountain views, natural surroundings, or grazing deer in the small field
below. Nature trails abound as well as a private pond. The main floor
of the house includes a fully equipped kitchen with microwave and coffee
maker, open living room with a stone fireplace, one bedroom (double) and
a full bath with washing machine (outside clothesline). The open upstairs
loft sleeps four (one queen, two twins) and has a half bath. There is
also a sleep sofa in the living room.

In 2000, after many years of negotiations, we were delighted to purchase
this historic fishing cabin that adjoins our property. Six months of restoration
and rebuilding have resulted in a lovely home for guest rentals. Come
experience seventy years of history as you enjoy the modern conveniences
that were added to this charming cottage from the 1940's. With a fully
equipped kitchen (Home Comfort cook stove, also), microwave and coffee
maker, 3 ½ bedrooms (1 double, 5 twins) and 1 ½ baths, this home is great
for families that need a lot of space. There are four separate porches
and a uniquely paneled sitting room with fireplace where fishermen once
gathered to tell their stories. The home overlooks our pond where guests
may enjoy the natural surroundings. The North Fork of the Tye River runs
past the front porch where you can find native fish or sit and experience
the ever changing bold mountain stream.
Both homes offer a family friendly atmosphere while
experiencing the seclusion and unique history of the mountains of Nelson
County.
